- The problem is not with ^A, though; the problem is with your typing
- and the way AtariWorks interprets it. The best solution is simply
- to have programs utilize a "verbose" mode for operations that are
- dangerous, such as deleting a block, deleting the entire text, or
- exiting the program. So that it does not interfere with good
- typists, though, there has to be a way to turn it off.
-
- [> As Sean Dougherty, user interface expert, once said, "Ctrl-A for
- [> selecting the whole document is just plain STUPID!"
-
- This makes no sense; ^A = Select "A"ll. What other combination would
- you like to use? The main advantage of this one (other than the fact
- that it fits) is that it is easy to type and that it is standardized.
- We are not trying to make up an entirely new standard, but rather
- develop a merged standard. Like it or not, ^A is a standard character
- on this system and others and should not be removed.
-

-
- One of the quickest ways to annoy everyone on the list is to call them
- fools, even indirectly. (You are in the minority, after all.) :)
-
- [> If we're not going to draw on experience and expiremental evidence for

-
- That could be fun, but more likely we'll just try not to ruffle too many
- feathers and make a standard that will not requier countless programs
- to be completely rewritten...
